Nature is Fashion

What greater pool to derive inspiration from as an artist than the all encompassing world of nature. There really is nothing else if you think about it and for the longest time everything we do has been a mirror or an echo of the world that surrounds us.

Perhaps the most forthright example we see of human beings mirroring the natural world is the Mount Hagen Sing Sing, which is an annual gathering in Papua New Guinea where the Tribesman wear the elaborate feathers of male birds of paradise to impress and bed women, mimicking the birds own mating displays..

While this may seem extreme our antics today are actually not that different. We mimic our surroundings in the way we dress as it is merely a projection and expression of our selves. Over the last couple of years, trend predictions and fashion movements have illustrated that we as a human race are moving more towards the natural, we are falling in love with our world again and it shows in the clothes we choose to wear and the accessories we choose to extenuate the latter.

The most recent example of this trend is spot on in terms of the predictions given 3 years ago by famed forecaster Li Edelkoort. Flora and Fauna can be seen everywhere from shoes to bags to bracelets and it’s just nothing short of marvellous.

You don’t have to be so bold as to wear a life size chicken on your head to achieve this effect.

Accessories are the easiest way to channel in your inner earth Goddess especially if you have a flair for vintage because as said before, artists have been inspired by nature since the beginning of time. The options are endless.
