Men’s Summer Fashion for Dummies

There gets a point in every man’s life when he realizes the need to look presentable during every occasion. The only problem is, many people have no idea where to start. Some guys can pull it off naturally; throw a jacket over a button-down and they are good to go. For others, it’s not quite as easy. This article is for those people. The people that might not even have that jacket in their closet in the first place.

Wedding Suit

The Basics

First things first. Every man needs the basics if they want to look even remotely presentable for something like a wedding, church or just a nice night out. A general rule of thumb is that you will look fine 90% of the time if you own these essentials: a good pair of khaki pants, a white or blue button-down shirt, a blue blazer, a matching tie and a solid pair of leather shoes. If all of these are ironed and shined, you will look fine. This is good if you only have to dress up occasionally, like for a wedding. If you are going to be wearing nice clothes every day, you’re going to need more variation.

Work Attire

It seems like almost every nice job these days require some sort of nice clothing, whether it be slacks and a button-down or the full suit and tie combo. Whatever it is, if you’re going to be working in an office every day, you’re going to need variation. If your job requires a suit, make sure to buy at least three well-fitting suits. Not your dad’s awful fitting suit from the seventies. You’re never going to look good in clothes that don’t fit you, so think about the purchase as an investment in your job. Buy a few neutral looking suits that fit well with each other, then mix and match. Pair some light pants with a navy jacket, or some khakis with a soft green jacket. If it looks good in the mirror, it probably works. If you still don’t know, ask a girl. They will.

Seersucker and white linen

It’s summer, which means it’s hot. Really hot. That means you need to have clothes that will not only look good in the summer sun, but also feel good. That’s where seersucker and white linen come into play. These materials were meant for the summer, hence the reason why you’re not supposed to wear them after labor day. Seersucker or white linen makes for the perfect wedding suit. Wear a well-fitting seersucker suit and you’ll be the life of the party.

With the right materials, summer fashion can be a breeze. When you look good, you feel good. And when you feel good, you look good. So get out there, have a good time, and don’t forget your seersucker.
