With
festival season firmly in full swing, fashion-conscious music lovers will be
seeking ways to stand out from the crowd at the latest must-attend event. But
just what's hot when it comes to festival attire, and how can you strike that
delicate balance between looking functional yet sassy at the same time? Read on for some inspiration.
The Wellies
Wellies
and festivals go hand-in-hand, and that's partly down to the unpredictable
nature of our climate. You'll hope for sun, but if the skies open, you'll be
more grateful for a pair of wellies than skimpy stilettos or summery flip-flops.
But, these days, wellies can be a fashion statement in their own right. There
are loads of styles and designs to choose from, so trendsetting festival-goers
should give this footwear particular consideration.
Floral
2013
fashion has been dominated by floral designs and patterns, so it's only right
that you should focus on flower power for any festivals that you're likely to
attend. Whether you opt for a floral, floaty dress, a floral playsuit, a
flowery maxi dress or miniscule floral shorts, you can really mix and match
styles to achieve a fashionable look that is also practical festival wear.
Headwear
It's
all too easy to get carried away concentrating on your festival wardrobe
without giving your head much consideration, but you can really cement a
particular look or style by touching on your headwear. If the sun's out, then a
wide-brimmed hat will shield the burning rays from your face, but can also look
very chic, too. With floral being this year's hottest trend, opt for floral
hair ties, clips or headbands.
Layers
Even
in the middle of a scorching summer, evenings can get chilly, so make sure you
bring something to keep you warm when the sun sets. Adding layers to your
outfit is a good idea, whether it's a cardie, jumper or light jacket, it will
mean that you can enjoy the festival without feeling the nip in the air.
A coat
If
the weather turns sour, you'll end up like a drenched rat if you haven't come
prepared, so make sure you pack a weatherproof coat in your holdall. It doesn't
have to be bulky; in fact, a lightweight, waterproof jacket will suffice. If
you're wearing bright-coloured clothes, then stick to a plain jacket, otherwise
you may end up looking garish. But, still, it's worth trying to team up your
coat with your outfit, so that they blend well together.
Denim
Denim
serves well at a festival, and isn't likely to lose fashion credibility any
time soon. If you're really unsure what to wear, then you can't go too far
wrong with denim attire. The good thing about denim, whether you opt for skinny
denim jeans or mini shorts, is that even if everyone else is wearing it, you
won't stick out like a sore thumb. Even better, you can mix and match denim
well with other items of clothing, to either create a casual daytime look or a
bit more of a sassy feel in the evening.
Bag
A
bag is a necessity at a festival, with functionality dominating over fashion. Yet,
that's not to say you can't carry a stylish bag around with you, but it's
probably best to leave your elegant clutch bag at home. 2013 has seen a rise in
popularity of the bum-bag, and this type of bag is the ideal accompaniment at a
festival, leaving you free to throw your hands in the air or wave a glow stick
about.
